TeachTransform’s Grade 6 Master Measurement is all about 2-D and 3-D measurement. This isn’t your typical “take notes” middle school instruction. Grade 6 Master Measurement includes hands-on investigations, puzzling problems, and real life facts. Once the math is uncovered, students solidify their understanding through discussion, practice, and journaling. Activities include lots of scaffolding so measurement is accessible for all students.

High interest contexts and hands-on learning keeps students interested and develops problem solving grit. For example, instead of learning area formulas by lecture, students cut and rearrange rectangles to uncover the formulas. Once they understand their origins, students use the formulas and learn to write the solutions correctly. Conversions problems can be dull. But not these. Students practice conversions using amazing animal facts and by playing games.

Grade 6 Master Measurement includes activities for the whole class, small groups, and intervention that build the academic language of measurement.

Each activity includes:

  • TEKS
  • Setting Up for Instruction
  • How-To Guide with full teacher directions including questions
  • Thought Extender Questions to help students get ‘unstuck’ and focus on the math concepts
  • Answer Key

Tutoring & Intervention

Grade 6 Master Measurement activities can be used for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 instruction in 6th grade. Have 7th graders who need support for finding area or volume? Back up to Grade 6 Master Measurement’s Triangles, Rectangles & Parallelograms, or What is Big B? to plan 7th grade interventions.

Instructional Alignment from Grades 3–8

TeachTransform’s measurement books are tightly aligned from elementary through  Grade 8 in both instructional style and modeling, providing students a seamless transition from an elementary concrete approach to measurement to an algebraic, middle school approach.

For students who are “growing up” with TeachTransform’s instructional materials, you can expect them, with a little prompting, to give an answer that includes a why, to use sentences to explain their thinking, to question each other in small groups. This lightens the instructional and cognitive load in each grade and leads to mastery.
